The Qa'dah Oola is observed at the end of the second Raka'at of every three or four Raka'at Salaah (i.e. 3 Fard, 4 Fard, 3 Witr and 4 Sunnah).
Saying the Takbeer on completing the second prostration (Sajdah) of the second Raka'at, sit as you would do in the position of Jalsah
Men - will spread out the left foot and sit on it, while raising the right foot with the toes facing the direction of Qiblah.
Women - for the bottom to be on the ground and for the feet to emerge from the right side, with the left foot being under the right foot (see illustration).
The hands are placed on the knees, fingers spread naturally.
Recite the Supplication of Witnessing” (al-Tashahhud)
اَلتَّحِیَّاتُ لِلّٰهِ وَالصَّلَوٰتُ وَالطَّیِّبَاتُ اَلسَّلَا مُ عَلَیْكَ اَ یُّهَا النَّبِیُّ وَ رَﺣْﻤَﺔُ اللّٰهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهٗ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَیْنَا وَ عَلٰی عِبَادِ اللّٰهِ الصَّالِحِیْنَؕ اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لَّاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَ اَشْهَدُ اَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهٗ وَ رَسُوْلُهٗ
While reciting Tashahhud, when you reach lā, raise your index finger as shown in the picture, by making a circle with the middle finger and the thumb; after saying the word illā, drop the finger and straighten your fingers as before.
On completing Tashahhud, immediately stand up for the 3rd Raka'ah, saying: Allahu Akbar.
To recite Tashahhud entirely (every single word of it).
Not to recite anything other than Tashahhud in the Qa'dah Oola of a Fard, Sunnah Mua'kkadah and Witr.
To immediately stand up for the third Raka'at on completing reciting Tashahhud.
To perform Qa'dah Oola only at the end of the second Raka'ah (i.e. it is not to be performed at the end of either the first or third Raka'ah).
To stand up for Qiyaam as soon as the Qa'dah Oola has been completed (any pause should be less than it takes to recite SubhanAllah three times).
To recite the Takbeer of Sitting.
To adopt a position of sitting.
Men - with the bottom resting on the left foot and right foot left erect with the toes bent towards the Qiblah. This is called Iftiraash.
Women - with one's posterior on the ground and the left foot on its side, emerging from under the right which is vertical. This is called Tawarruk style.
Rest the hand on the thighs with the fingers spread in their natural position (neither tightly held or too widely spread) facing Qiblah.
To make a ring with the thumb and middle finger, clenching the other two fingers and raising the index finger when reciting the Shahadah in Tashahhud; releasing them all when reaching "il-lalaahu".
